Emerging Roles of Astrocytes in CNS

 Prof. Maiken Nedergaard
(University of Rochester Medical Center)

 Chair:Hiroshi Kiyama
     (Graduate School of Medicine, Nagoya
      University)

Maiken Nedergaard, MD, DMSc, is a Professor at the University of Rochester Medical Center School of Medicine and Dentistry in the Department of Neurosurgery, where she is the director. She is also a professor in the Department of Neurology, as well as the Department of Neurobiology and Anatomy. Prof. Nedergaard is the most famous scientist in the field of neuron-glia interactions. She has shed light on glial cells especially astrocytes, and found so many new functions of astrocytes. All new findings she found are beyond our expectation, and are very important and essential for understanding of brain physiology and pathophysiology.
